Rain Policy
First of all, PRAY for no rain. But if Mother Nature has other ideas, here's how it works...
Sensibly speaking, tornadoes or hurricanes will certainly necessitate canceling the event. But for rain or other storms, regardless of when the rain occurs (even if it is raining around start time), THE EVENT WILL NOT BE CANCELLED.
Even in the rain, you can still enjoy raffles, auctions, drinks and good food. There will tent-cover from the weather. So, please come - choosing not to show up only removes you from the other fun and reduces the contribution to the IFC which is primarily made from sponsorships, cheats, raffles, and auctions!
If rain begins after golf has started, play will continue to completion unless accompanied by lightning or rain is sufficient for UNC Finley to decide to close the course. The course makes that decision, not the tournament planners.
If all groups have not yet completed at least 9 holes when play ceases, there will be no scoring and no prizes for team placement awarded. Instead, we will raffle or auction off those prizes, so be sure to hang around awhile.
If all groups have completed at least 9 holes when play ceases, we will have a simple change to our handicapping for team scoring, applying the team-handicap proportionally to the number of holes played. In other words, equal to 9/18th of the predetermined team-handicap for 9 holes completed, 10/18th for 10 holes, 11/18th for 11 holes, etc. This is the most equitable way to apply handicapping when different groups may have completed different numbers of holes at the time play ceases. (Because this is not a PGA-type tournament, official PGA handicapping methods are not used, and the spirit of the event is that we're all there to have a good time--and help a great organization. There will be no attempt to also apply per-hole handicapping for differences in holes completed.) So, for scores from play completed (with the handicaps described applied), all team prizes will be awarded. Again, be sure to hang around awhile!
Longest drive, closest to the pin, or similar contests will not be scored or awarded unless all groups have played the relevant holes, since these are contests each golfer plays relative to every other player on the course.
Hole-in-one prizes will be awarded for anyone achieving them on relevant holes, regardless of how many players have completed them, since those contests do not depend on position relative to any other player.
Registrations fees are not refundable from the BCMGT. This is true regardless of weather, the course being closed, or your attendance at the event. The BCMGT is contractually obligated to pay the course for its reserved use. Any money collected that is not used for golf goes directly to the IFC.
